PURCHASE LINE – It was a successful road trip for the Curwensville Area High School girl’s softball squad on Monday afternoon.
The Lady Tide picked up win number six on the season, beating the Purchase Line Lady Red Dragons 7-3.
After a lackluster performance in losing to Moshannon Valley on Friday, Lady Tide head coach Allen Leigey saw a different Curwensville team on Monday, commenting afterwards, “We played really well today compared with the way we played last Friday. Saturday was a good practice day for us and that helped get us back on track.”
Purchase Line took a 1-0 lead after two innings but Curwensville scored three runs in the top half of the third inning to go in front with a margin of 3-1. A margin the Lady Red Dragons would not overcome.
The hosts did make it close with a lone run in the bottom of the fourth to trail only 3-2 but the Lady Tide sealed the deal with four tallies in the top of the seventh.
Junior Rylee Young struck out seven and walked none in picking up her sixth win of the year for Curwensville.
Lady Tide first baseman Nikki Harker drove in the three runs with two hits that included a double.
Teammate Megan MCartney blasted two doubles while sophomore shortstop Hannah Dixon added two singles.
Purchase Line pitcher Kira Smith took the loss, but on the way struck out 13 Lady Tide.
Smith and Kara St. Clair each had two hits, with one of St. Clair’s being a triple.
Madison Zometsky also had an extra base hit for the Lady Red Dragons, a double.
The Lady Tide (6-3) is on the road again Tuesday, traveling to St. Marys to play Elk County Catholic. Play is to start at 4:15 pm.
