HYDE — The Clearfield Area High School softball team erupted for 10 runs in the fourth inning and went on to defeat Tyrone 12-2 in Mountain League action at the Bison Sports Complex Monday.
The Mercy Rule was effected when pinch-hitter Abby Fedder led off the bottom of the sixth inning with a hard single to center field and dashed all the way around the sacks after the ball was misplayed.
The Lady Bison’s biggest outburst of the season was highlighted by Nikki Brossard’s two doubles that drove in three runs.
Karlie Lewis and Victoria Ireland also had run-scoring hits in the rally that was helped along by two Lady Eagle errors, three walks and a hit batsman.
An error, Lewis’ triple to deep left and Brossard’s two-bagger to right center tied the score. After Ireland walked and Lauren Butler beat out an infield single, Erica Hanes was hit by a pitch to force in the winning run.
Another miscue gave the Lady Bison two more runs before Hanes scored on a sacrifice fly by Aspen Bishop and Sierra Jones crossed the plate on a wild pitch. Following a walk to Lewis, Brossard drilled a two-run double down the left field line and then came home on Ireland’s single.
Brossard accounted for three of Clearfield’s 10 hits off two Tyrone pitchers.
Raeleigh Redden hurled a five-hitter for the win, striking out five and walking only one.
Anna Baran had two hits for the Lady Eagles, 0-9 in the ML.
Clearfield (5-6) will be at home again Thursday to take on Bald Eagle Area and will play its first non-league game Friday at Punxsutawney.
