HYDE — Devynn Ireland, in her first start since coming off the injury list, enjoyed a career day with three hits and five RBIs while Karlie Lewis socked four consecutive singles and scored three runs as the Clearfield Area High School softball team came from behind twice to defeat Bellefonte in Mountain League action Friday.
The Lady Bison, who entered the makeup game with 41 hits and a .175 average through nine games, exploded for 15 hits with Brooke Cline, Sierra Jones and Aspen Bishop also contributing multi-hit performances.
Six doubles, two by Ireland, and one triple matched their season total for extra base blows.
Raeleigh Redden was the beneficiary, picking up her fourth win in 10 decisions with her eighth complete game. She allowed 11 hits but only two earned runs, struck out three and walked three.
Putting the brakes to a five-game losing streak took some late inning fireworks by the Lady Bison.
Tara Baney, who one-hit them over four innings when the Lady Raiders rolled 11-2 on March 30, took a two-hitter and a 4-0 lead into the fourth frame.
Clearfield’s bat finally came to life with an infield single by Jones and a triple by Bishop breaking up the shutout. Bishop also scored when the relay throw to third base was off target.
After Lewis singled and Redden reached base when her sacrifice bunt was misplayed, Ireland ripped a double into left field for two runs to tie the game.
Singles by Lewis and Ireland around another Bellefonte miscue gave the Lady Bison a short-lived 5-4 lead in the fifth.
Bellefonte regained the lead at 7-6 in the top of the sixth on RBI singles by Jordan Rockey and Liz Lynn.
Clearfield (4-6) answered with a five-run salvo highlighted by Ireland’s second two-run double as well as RBI two-baggers by Jones, Bishop and Macala Leigey.
Rockey and Jenna Ault each had two hits and two RBIs for Bellefonte. Sarah Menna and Angela Capparelle also had pairs of safeties.
The Lady Bison will welcome Tyrone to the Bison Sports Complex Monday.
