An improvised bomb exploded Friday on the road where a U.S. consulate is situated in Irbil, the capital of northern Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region, a local government official said on condition of anonymity.
Iraqi state-run TV also reported that an explosion happened near the U.S. consulate in Irbil.
All U.S. consulate personnel were safe and accounted for following the explosion, a U.S. official said on condition of anonymity.
The road where the explosion happened also leads to the residence of the Kurdish Regional Government’s Prime Minister, the local official said.
