Warriors’ Bats Explode in Sixth to Down Golden Tide

CURWENSVILLE — Try as they might, whether at the mound or at the plate, the Golden Tide baseball team had no answer.  The visiting West Branch Warriors found themselves in an early hole, but almost immediately found some needed momentum.  Despite a rally, the visiting squad added some insurance when it mattered.

It was too much for the Tide as they would fall for the second straight game in a 9-4 final.

A.J. Bloom got the start for the Tide, and was looking strong early, but after 2 and 2/3rds innings, he would be pulled.  Yielding five hits and four runs plus six walks, he would be taken out, and would suffer the loss.

On the opposite side, Josh Lannen pitched three innings in relief of starter Cameron Lytle, to pick up the win for West Branch.

Curwensville would start out the scoring in the first inning.  Jake Terry would single and then move to second on the game’s first error.  Bloom would then hit an RBI single to get the first run of the afternoon.  However, when the second inning began, it was West Branch that would begin getting the bats rolling.

Vince McDowell would get the scoring started for the Warriors on an RBI-double and then Lannen would score on a sacrifice flyl.  One inning later, the lead would extend even more.  Walker Williams would be brought in by an RBI-single by Lytle, then Lannen would do the same thing to bring in Issac Guenot, and McDowell hit his second RBI-double to bring in Lytle.

Despite being down four runs, Curwensville was not going down without a fight.

A fielder’s choice by Jake B. Stiles would bring in Noah Strickland, and then Bloom would hit a two-run single to bring the deficit down to 5-4, where it remained until the sixth inning.  That would be the inning where the Tide would see their rally come to a halt.

Myers would start the scoring with a two-run triple, and then Mark Glace would bring Myers in on an RBI single. Michael White would then bring in Glace to end the scoring on the afternoon.

Curwensville (1-2) is in the midst of four games in just as many days, and now goes on the road to face DuBois Central Catholic on Tuesday with a 4:15 first pitch.
