6.9 earthquake hits off Japanese coast

A 6.9 earthquake struck off the coast of Japan on Monday, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake’s epicenter was 220 kilometers (137 miles) east of Miyako, Japan, USGS said. It occurred at 6:06 p.m. ET.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no tsunami threat from the quake.
