PHILIPSBURG — The Philipsburg-Osceola Area High School girls basketball team gained a measure of revenge Tuesday night in defeating visiting Clearfield, 66-47, in Mountain League action.
The Lady Bison knocked off the Lady Mounties the first time the two battled in Clearfield, on January 13, 70-64.
The simple story of this game was the play of Lady Mountie Abby Showers. The senior had a game to remember, scoring 36 points, as Philipsburg-Osceola cruised to its third Mountain League victory against nine losses.
Philipsburg-Osceola started quickly to put the Lady Bison away by the intermission taking a 44-24 bulge into the half.
With the damage already done by the Lady Mounties, the second half saw the two teams play just about even, with Clearfield having a 23-22 edge.
Junior Haylee Hayward also had a good night for the Mounties, scoring 16 points.
Two Lady Bison hit for double figures in Emily Aveni, a senior, having 12 points while teammate junior Rachel Glenny added 10.
Clearfield, now on a seven game losing streak, dropped in to a tie with the Lady Mounties in league play with an identical mark of 3-9.
There was no junior varsity contest.
The Lady Bison (4-15) have their final home game of the season Wednesday night when they host Central in a make-up encounter. The contest had originally been scheduled for January 21, but was postponed due to the weather. Central defeated Clearfield the first time the two squads met in early December, 57-38.
