Vikings Dash Golden Tide’s Postseason Hopes, 64-52

FLINTON — There will be no postseason for the Curwensville Area High School boys basketball team.

Revenge-minded Glendale, fueled by a trio that combined for 58 points, ended the visiting Golden Tide’s chances of qualifying for the District 9 Class AA Playoffs with a big second half for a 64-52 win in a Moshannon Valley League makeup game Wednesday afternoon.

Only MVL champion West Branch and Mountain League contender Clearfield, a pair of two-loss teams, have scored more points against the Golden Tide.

Curwensville, which had edged Glendale 53-50 in mid-January, had the upper hand throughout most of the first half to take a 27-25 lead into intermission.

However, the Vikings erupted for 39 points in the second half with the inside-outside duo of Shea O’Donnell and Anthony Barnhart netting 18 and 11 points, respectively, to balance their record at 9-9.

O’Donnell, a member of the Glendale 1,000-Point Club, earned the scoring laurels with a 25-point performance. Barnhart, who accounted for all five of the Vikings’ three-pointers, tallied 19 and Nate Braniff added 14.

Jake Terry topped the Golden Tide with 13 points, while Quamone Newkirk came off the bench to score 10. Newkirk and Harrison Bloom had a pair of treys apiece.

Curwensville finished 4-4 in the MVL and is 5-14 overall.

The Golden Tide will wrap up their Allegheny Mountain League South Division slate with their home finale against DuBois Central Catholic Thursday and a trip to Kane Friday.
