Egypt media: 20 killed in North Sinai attack

At least 20 people were killed and 36 injured Thursday after three explosions during an attack on security posts in the Al Arish area of northern Sinai, EGYNews reports.

Among those killed and wounded were security forces and civilians, EGYNews said.

Mortar rounds and a car bomb were used in the attack, multiple Egyptian media reported.

Militants fired mortars at the headquarters for the security directorate and other security sites in the provincial capital, state-run Ahram said. Parts of the buildings were damaged, a source told the news outlet.

In October, two attacks killed 31 soldiers in Al Arish, one of the deadliest attacks on Egyptian troops in recent times, Ahram said.

Egypt’s army has struggled with militant violence in the peninsula, especially since the ouster of 2013 ouster of Islamist President Mohamed Morsy, the news outlet reported.
