DuBois Council Hears about Property Donation to Habitat for Humanity

DUBOIS – On Monday, Habitat for Humanity of Clearfield County representative, John Farr, spoke at the DuBois City Council meeting regarding the donation of a property at 122 E. Long Ave. offered by Wells Fargo Bank.

Farr explained that the property in question has been vacant for the past 10 years, and is an old Victorian with an attached apartment in need of repair.

After accepting the donation, Habitat for Humanity would have the option to renovate the property for a Habitat for Humanity family, sell the property and use the proceeds to purchase an empty lot on the corner of Main and South Street, or demolish the property with the intent to rebuild on the lot for a Habitat for Humanity family.

He further explained that he was simply informing the council that, “I want to do something the community is OK with.”

Closing the discussing on the home, Farr said that it was likely he would accept the donation, sell the home and use the proceeds to purchase the corner lot by Main and South streets.

The first reading of Council Bill No. 1904 was approved by the council.  The bill is now set to be advertised for three consecutive weeks before the second reading will occur.

The purpose of the bill is for the city to vacate a portion of Second Avenue between McClure and Mahoning streets, which has been blocked off for many years.

The bill came at the request of all of the abutting property owners in the form of a petition.  The property owners wish to absorb the vacated lot on either side and thus become responsible for the taxes.
