CURWENSVILLE — Tough losses continue to mount for the Curwensville Area High School boys basketball team.
The Golden Tide staged a furious comeback in the fourth quarter Friday night to erase what became a 13-point deficit and take Brockway into overtime.
Then, they watched Brockway can nine of 12 foul shots and walk off the Patton Hall hardwood with a 50-45 win.
Three-point field goals made the difference in the second Allegheny Mountain League South Division nail-biter between the two teams as the Rovers drained eight to avenge a 53-51 loss back on Dec. 8.
Jake Terry had a pair of treys for Curwensville, both in the fourth period when he accounted for nine of the hosts’ 17 points en route to a game-high 18 markers.
Coach Shane Pentz pointed to defense as the key to the Golden Tide’s rally.
“We started trapping and got some turnovers and steals for some transition baskets,” he said.
Curwensville, which had played catch-up the whole game, did go in front twice in the extra period before Brockway pulled away.
Two Golden Tide starters fouled out, Noah Strickland in regulation and Trey Rauckhorst in overtime after he had scored nine points.
Brockway (5-10) got five three-pointers and 16 points from Jared Rogos and two three-pointers and 15 points from Andrew Serafini.
Curwensville, 4-11 after its third overtime setback, will be home again Monday against DuBois Central Catholic, which was nipped 30-29 by AML-South leader Ridgway Friday night.
In the junior varsity game, Quamone Newkirk netted 18 points for Curwensville in a 56-39 loss.
