BELLEFONTE — The Clearfield Bison wrestling team dropped to 5-8 on the year after a “closer-than-the-scoreboard” final score of 34-18 at Bellefonte (9-3) Tuesday night.
The Bison lost six matches by regular decision, two of them by one point and all six by four points or less. A takedown the other way in a couple of those bouts could have resulted in a much different final score.
But, the host Red Raiders did what they needed to do to run out to a workmanlike, and insurmountable, 31-3 lead after the first 10 weight classes were in the books.
The Bison then won three out of the last four matches to make the final score a respectable 34-18.
Picking up falls for the Bison were Travis Ogden (18-1) at 195 and Nate Lash (11-9) at 285. Regular decision winners for the visitors were Logan Puit (5-7) at 138 and Levi Wiser (10-13), who needed overtime to win at 182.
The Bison have a much-needed couple of days off before traveling to the New Oxford tournament this weekend.
