General McLane Wins Bison Duals; Clearfield 6th, Curwensville 8th

HYDE — The 7th Annual Clearfield Bison Duals hosted 12 wrestling teams from all corners of the state on Saturday.

Claiming the team championship with a 5-0 day was General McLane, returning to championship form after losing to the West Branch Warriors in last year’s final.

McLane defeated an undefeated Montoursville team by a 38-24 score to claim their second title in three years.

In the third place match, Greenville beat Hempfield 38-34.

The host Bison went 2-3 on the day to finish in sixth place, matching their seed for the tourney. After going 1-1 in pool play, with a win against Grand Army of the Republic (GAR) Memorial and a loss against West Branch, the Bison advanced to the quarterfinals where they were dropped in to the consolation bracket by Greenville. The Bison defeated James Coughlin to move in to the fifth place medal match. They were defeated once again by West Branch to finish in sixth.

The Curwensville Golden Tide also went 1-1 in pool play, defeating Port Allegany and losing to eventual tourney champion General McLane. The Tide were shut out in the quarterfinals and beaten by West Branch in the consolation bracket. Moving on to the seventh place match, the Tide were beaten by Coughlin to finish in eighth place.

Four Bison went undefeated on the day – Logan Gilbert (13-7), Noah Cline (18-4), and Tallin Norris (12-10) each went 5-0, while Travis Ogden (17-1) went 3-0. Josiah McClarren (12-7) and Luke McGonigal (12-6) each went 4-1.

The Bison will be back in action when they travel to Bellefonte Tuesday night for a Mountain League dual meet.

The Golden Tide return to the mats on Wednesday when they travel to West Branch.
