NEW BETHLEHEM – The Curwensville Area High School wrestling team traveled Thursday night to New Bethlehem to meet up with the Bulldogs of Redbank Valley.
The Golden Tide saw its record drop to 2-2 after a 42-31 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs.
After falling behind 28-6, Curwensville made a small comeback that fell short and actually came to within five points at 36-31 before the Bulldogs picked up a forfeit at 220 in the final bout.
Curwensville had four pins on the night – Anthony Winebold at 106, Kaleb Witherite at 170, Ben Junod at 180 and Jake Stiles wrestling at 195. Witherite, just a sophomore, is now 9-3 on the year.
Shae Bloom of the Tide improved to 11-0 on the season with a 12-0 major decision at 138 over Bulldog Luke Gallo.
At 145 Curwensville’s Sam Bressler saw his record go to 11-2 with a 7-4 decision over Austin Schreckengost of Redbank Valley.
The Golden Tide’s Jake Lancaster, 8-3 at 152, did not wrestle due to an injury before the start of the dual meet.
In junior high action, Curwensville and Redbank Valley tied 16-16.
Curwensville will return to the mats Tuesday, at home, when it wrestles Clarion at Patton Hall. The junior high match is scheduled to start at 6 pm, with the varsity to immediately follow.
