London airport on standby for emergency landing

Emergency services are on standby for a Virgin Atlantic plane to make a “non-standard landing” at London’s Gatwick Airport due to a technical fault, the London airport says.

Flight VS043 had departed for Las Vegas when it developed the fault, the airport said.

“In line with standard procedure, emergency services are on standby at the airport purely as a precaution,” it said on Twitter.

A Virgin Atlantic U.S. representative confirmed to CNN that the plane was “making a return to London Gatwick airport and is preparing for a non-standard landing procedure due to a technical issue with the landing gear.”
