WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Sophomore Jessica Shomo (Clearfield) tied the Clarion University indoor record for the long jump and qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Championships with a leap of 17 feet, 3¼ inches at the Youngstown State Icebreaker Friday night.
She shares the standard established by Jessica Vitous in 2013.
Shomo, who placed sixth among 33 long jump entries from 14 schools, also broke her own record in the 60-meter dash with an 8.24-second sprint to finish 17th among 32 runners.
She was 14th in the triple jump with a 32-feet, 11¾-inches effort.

WRESTLING
WOOSTER, Ohio –– Sophomore 165-pounder Nolan Barger (Clearfield) was seeded fifth for the Ohio Northern Invitational Saturday but twice defeated No. 4 seed Colt Lovejoy of the host team to claim third place and pace Lycoming’s sixth-place finish in the 15-team field.
Barger received a forfeit from Heidelberg’s Alex Kenner in the first round and then advanced to the semifinals with a 13-3 major decision against Lovejoy.
No. 1 seed Eric Antesberger of Division II West Liberty blocked his path to the finals with a hard-earned 11-8 victory.
Barger then major decisioned No. 7 seed Travis Heller of Alma 11-1 and bested Lovejoy 4-1 to pad his record to 12-4.
With eight other Warriors placing in the top eight, Lycoming totaled 97 points to finish ahead of two ranked Division III teams, No. 17 Waynesburg and No. 19 Ohio Northern.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING
ADA, Ohio — Freshman Kara Thorp (Clearfield) swam career-best times in two events and earned points in two individual evens for Edinboro at the Wooster Invitational last week.
She lowered her 200-meter freestyle record to 2:00.77 in the ‘C’ final to place 18th after qualifying 17th among the 52 entries in 2:00.27 and knocked more than nine seconds off her mark for the 500 free with a 5:33.43 clocking, good for 33rd place among 55 entries.
In her first attempt at 1,650 meters, Thorp picked up points with a 16th-place finish in 19:01.46.
She also turned in a 2:04.95 second leg for the Fighting Scot 800 free relay quartet that posted an 8:07.03 to produce 48 points.
With 916 points, Lycoming wound up right in the middle of the 11 teams.
