Lady Tide Use Strong Second Half to Dump Brockway 67-46

CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Area High School girls basketball team made it two in a row Tuesday evening when they defeated the Brockway Lady Rovers, 67-46, on the Lady Tide’s home floor.

Curwensville senior Ciara Strickland had another huge offensive game (39 points Monday night), with 29 tallies against the Lady Rovers, including three three-pointers.

Lady Tide sophomore Hannah Dixon also had a big night, a career night in fact, pouring in 25 points to assist Strickland in the offensive department for Curwensville, now 2-0.

The Tide, however, couldn’t pull away from Brockway until the second half as they only held a three point margin at the break, 27-24.

It was a different second half as Curwensville outscored the Lady Rovers 40-22 to seal the win.

Head Coach Rusty McCracken spoke after the win, “We did play well this evening, which included shooting better than last night.”

Then McCracken talked about the effort from Dixon, “We need all the girls to step up just like Hannah did tonight in order for us to be successful.”

Lady Tide senior Heather Thorp had eight assists while sophomore Christine Limbert pulled down nine rebounds to add to the overall effort for Curwensville.

Brockway was fueled by 16 points from senior Julianna Esposito.

Brockway won the junior varsity contest, 26-7, over the young Lady Tide.

Next up for Curwensville is a trip to Ridgway on Friday to battle the Lady Elkers with the JV game starting at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
