LOCK HAVEN — Junior running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) broke off a 21-yard touchdown run with 5:30 remaining to lift Lock Haven to a 17-10 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East Division victory over Millersville at Hubert Jack Stadium Saturday.
A crowd of 3,104 saw the Bald Eagles post a second consecutive win for the first time since the 2003 season.
Swales racked up 51 yards on three carries to fuel the six-play, 71-yard drive that answered the Marauders’ game-tying TD with 7:49 to play.
He established career highs with 26 carries for 118 yards one week after a 24-116 performance against Cheyney. He added 19 yards on two pass receptions.
In his first season as Lock Haven’s workhorse back, Swales has rushed 146 times for 519 yards and two TDs, with his average of 64.9 yards a game ranking 11th in the PSAC.
With 24 receptions for 171 yards (one TD) and 10 kickoff returns for 209 yards, Swales sports a total of 899 all-purpose yards.
Lock Haven is 2-6 with a 2-5 PSAC-East record.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Freshman linebacker Christian Lezzer (Clearfield) saw action as Boston College held off host Wake Forest 23-17 to disappoint most of the 26,539 fans at BB & T Field Saturday.
The Eagles balanced their Atlantic Coast Conference record at 2-2 with their fifth win in eight games.
Lezzer has played in four games with one tackle for a nine-yard sack and one assist.

CLARION — Junior longsnapper Eric White (Clearfield) was limited to four plays with the punt unit in Clarion’s 43-32 loss to No. 27-ranked California in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division game that attracted 1,553 fans to Memorial Stadium Saturday.
White assisted on one tackle for the Golden Eagles (2-6, 2-5 PSAC-West).
He had one solo stop in the season opener.

INDIANA — Wide receiver Trey Campman (Clearfield) saw action for Indiana University of Pennsylvania in a 31-21 loss to Slippery Rock in front of a Miller Stadium crowd of 2850 Saturday.
Campman, who has one solo tackle, has appeared in every game for the Crimson Hawks, who dipped to 4-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and 5-3 overall.

ALLENTOWN — Freshman offensive lineman Jon Janocko (Clearfield) played in his second game for Juniata, which couldn’t hang with once-beaten Muhlenberg and came out on the short end of a 43-13 final with 3,141 fans looking on at Scotty Wood Stadium Saturday.
The Eagles slipped to 3-4 with their fourth loss in six Centennial Conference games.

BEAVER FALLS — Freshman defensive back Austin Jacobson (Curwensville) made his first appearance for Geneva Saturday as the Golden Tornadoes upset Bethany (W.Va.) 20-14 to delight a crowd of 3,245 at Reeves Field Saturday.
The win was the first in five Presidents’ Athletic Conference outings for the 2-4 Golden Tornadoes.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
BLOOMSBURG — Senior Brooke Mohney (Bigler/Clearfield Area H.S.) started at forward for Bloomsburg in a double-overtime 1-1 tie with Millersville on Senior Night at Steph Pettit Stadium last Wednesday and a 2-0 loss at Shippensburg Saturday.
She was one of five seniors honored before the Millersville game.
The Huskies fell to a 5-8-2 finish in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference and are 6-8-2 overall.
In 14 starts, Mohney has 11 shots, seven on goal, and two goals for four points.

INDIANA — Freshman forward Carlee Freeburg (Clearfield) played in a reserve role Saturday when Clarion suffered its fourth consecutive shutout setback, 1-0 to Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
She has subbed in 13 games with five shots, one on goal, for the Lady Eagles, whose record is 3-10-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

ERIE — Freshmen McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield) and Katie Powers (Clearfield) saw action in a pair of Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference road wins by Penn State Behrend last week, 4-0 over D’Youville at Buffalo, N.Y., Wednesday and 5-1 over Mount Aloysius at Cresson Saturday.
The Lions (13-4-1) closed their AMCC schedule at 7-2, good for third place and a home game in the first round of the championship tournament.
Aleksivich, a midfielder, has registered one shot on goal.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING
PAINESVILLE, Ohio — Freshman Kara Thorp (Clearfield) helped three Edinboro foursomes total 22 points in the Westminster Relays Friday and placed in one individual event as the Fighting Scots defeated Lake Erie 98-61 in their dual meet opener Saturday at the Spire Institute.
She led off with the team’s fastest split, 2:06.63, to spur the 800 freestyle quartet to fourth place in 8:41.75, swam the second leg for the 500 crescendo foursome that placed third in 5:15.30 and was third up for the 400 free quartet that also finished third in 3:53.55.
Edinboro scored 94 points to place third in the six-team event behind Gannon (126) and Westminster (100).
Against Lake Erie, Thorp was third in the 1,000 free in 11:58.44.
With the victory clinched, the Fighting Scots did not compete for points in two events Thorp was entered, but took third in the 500 free in 5:53.01 and anchored the 200 ’B’ relay team to a 1:48.13 time with a 26.38 split.

WHEELING, W.Va. — Sophomore Krystal Wriglesworth (Clearfield) was on a victorious relay foursome and earned second-place points in three other events as California salvaged a split for its season openers with a 166-69 win over Notre Dame (Ohio) in Wheeling Jesuit’s McDonough Center pool Saturday.
The Vulcans were beaten 145-97 by the host Cardinals.
Wriglesworth swam the leadoff backstroke leg for the 200 medley ’A’ relay team that was first against Notre Dame and second against Wheeling Jesuit with a 1:55.29 time.
She touched the wall in 1:05.71 in the 100 back and 2:24.82 in the 200 back, both efforts good for second place against Notre Dame and fourth place against Wheeling Jesuit.
The Vulcan 400 ’B’ relay quartet has similar finishes with Wriglesworth swimming the third leg in a 3:55.46 clocking.
