Penn Highlands Brookville Provides Public Notice of Data Security Incident
BROOKVILLE – Penn Highlands Brookville, a healthcare service for the Brookville area, today confirmed a data security incident, which may involve personal information for patients of Barry J. Snyder, MD.
On Aug. 14, Penn Highlands Brookville discovered that a computer server containing patient information for Snyder was compromised when a third-party intruder potentially had access to information contained on the server.
Snyder’s office, located in Fairmount City, did not experience the data security event directly, but rather a third-party vendor located in Ohio hired to maintain records for Snyder may have been compromised.
Recreation Improvements in DuBois’ Future
DUBOIS- A second public hearing of the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) took place prior to the beginning of the normally scheduled DuBois City Council meeting.
Swales Outlines Progress, Concept of Riverfront Project
CLEARFIELD – The progress of the Clearfield County Economic Development Corp.’s (CCEDC) riverfront development project will soon become visible to area residents, according to Rob Swales, CCEDC chief executive officer.
The riverfront project will connect the Market and Nichols Street Bridges with a one-mile loop. Its development will occur over three phases with residents seeing progress, beginning in November and December and continuing into 2015.

HARRISBURG (AP) – Pennsylvania State Police fear the man suspected of killing one trooper and wounding a second is looking to strike again.
Police Commissioner Frank Noonan spoke about the more than month-long effort to capture Eric Frein after updating lawmakers at the state Capitol.
PennDOT Asking for Public Comment on Improving its Mobile Customer Services
HARRISBURG – As part of PennDOT’s continued efforts to modernize and improve customer service, the department has launched an online survey to collect public feedback on safety, education and mobility needs to help guide future mobile service development.
The survey is available until Nov. 12 at www.dot.state.pa.us on the “Submit Feedback” page.
Commissioners Approve Bid for Exterior Sealing at Courthouse
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners voted to approve the bid for the exterior sealing of the courthouse at yesterday’s regular meeting.
The commissioners received one bid for the project, which was from ARS Inc. of Bridgeville, in the amount of $46,400. ARS is currently working on an exterior painting project at the courthouse.
Economic Development Corp. “Deep” into Clean-Up at former Howe’s Leather Site
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Economic Development Corp. (CCEDC) is “deep” into the clean-up of the former Howe’s Leather tannery site, according to Rob Swales, CCEDC chief executive officer.
The site spans 26.5 acres in Curwensville Borough. It’s recognized as a brownfield site by the state Department of Environmental Protection, which means it’s perceived to have environmental liabilities, said Swales.
Corbett Signs Bill Expanding Newborn Screening Requirements
HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett signed House Bill 1654 into law at an event in the Capitol on Wednesday, expanding newborn screening requirements to assist in early detection measures that will help to improve care for children diagnosed with certain rare disorders.
Corbett was joined by prime sponsor of the bill, Rep. Angel Cruz (D-Philadelphia); other members of the General Assembly; Secretary of Health Michael Wolf; and Physician General Dr. Carrie DeLone.
DCED Announces Next Phase of Innovate in PA Tax Credit Program
HARRISBURG – Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) Secretary C. Alan Walker has announced the Innovate in PA program has moved forward with the selection of Atex Petros Holdings LLC to sell $100 million in insurance premiums tax credits.
The sale of these tax credits will generate revenue for programs and initiative that support Pennsylvania’s entrepreneurs and start-up businesses.
Key Club to Scare Up Some Funds and Fun this Halloween
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area Junior-Senior High School Key Club is trying to scare up some funds and fun this October by participating in Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.
This is an opportunity for local students to collect donations instead of candy for a cause. All money collected by the school’s Key Club this October through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF will support The Eliminate Project: Kiwanis eliminating maternal and neonatal tetanus (MNT).
Hearing Continued in Meth Lab Case
CLEARFIELD – During yesterday’s session of Centralized Court, a preliminary hearing was continued for a Clearfield man who allegedly manufactured methamphetamine inside his residence at the Leonard Grade Apartment Complex.
Mark Charles Hackett, 53, of Clearfield has been charged with possession of red phosphorous with intent to manufacture a controlled substance, risking catastrophe, criminal attempt/manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to manufacture or deliver, operating a methamphetamine lab and deposits, stores, disposes of chemical waste.
Sankey Encourages Governor to Sign Bill Involving Legislature in Setting Environmental Policy
HARRISBURG – State Rep. Tommy Sankey (R-Clearfield) is applauding Senate passage of a House bill, which gives the Pennsylvania General Assembly a voice in determining environmental policy with regard to carbon dioxide emissions from existing power plants. House Bill 2354, authored by Rep. Pam Snyder (D-Fayette/Greene/Washington) is now eligible to be signed into law by Gov. Tom Corbett.
“Energy-Intense” Industries Being Sought for River Hill Property, Says Swales
CLEARFIELD – “Energy-intense” industries are being sought for the 1,987-acre River Hill Power Co. property in Karthaus, according to Rob Swales, chief executive officer of the Clearfield County Economic Development Corp. (CCEDC).
Several years ago, River Hill Power wanted to construct a waste coal generation facility on the property. It invested in excess of $40 million into site development, including infrastructure upgrades and roadway access to accommodate heavy industrial traffic, said Swales.
Clearfield Council Hears Opposition to Commercial Development in Riverfront Project
CLEARFIELD – On Thursday night, Clearfield Borough Council heard from Fred Weaver, a local business owner and resident, who voiced opposition to the commercial development portion of the Clearfield County Economic Development Corp.’s (CCEDC) riverfront redevelopment project.
Weaver said his “central argument” against this project is that taxpayer money in the form of economic stimulus grants shouldn’t be used to create competition with private enterprise. “Owning and profiting from commercial real estate is a private enterprise,” he said.
Corbett Announces $2.25M to Improve Flood Protection in Jefferson Co.
HARRISBURG – Gov. Tom Corbett has announced that the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) has awarded more than $2.25 million to HRI Inc. of State College to rehabilitate a 50-year-old levee structure on Little Toby Creek to support flood protection in Brockway, Jefferson County.

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Council voted unanimously to give its solicitor permission to draft documents to proceed with plans for the riverfront redevelopment project during Thursday night’s regular meeting.
