BLOOMSBURG — Graduate student Brooke Mohney (Bigler/Clearfield Area H.S.) recorded her first goal of the season as Bloomsburg defeated winless Pitt-Johnstown 3-0 at Steph Pettit Stadium Sunday to cap a 2-0-1 week.
With the Huskies clinging to a 1-0 lead, Mohney provided insurance in the 81st minute by getting to a loose ball in the box and booting her third shot of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game past the Lady Cat goalkeeper.
Bloomsburg (4-2-1, 3-2-1 PSAC) had bested Chestnut Hill 3-1 in a non-conference outing on Tuesday, Sept. 16, and battled Seton Hill to a scoreless tie in double overtime Saturday.
Mohney, who has made six starts, has five shots, all but one on goal.

CLARION — Freshman forward Carlee Freeburg (Clearfield) had one of only three shots credited to Clarion in a 1-0 overtime loss at Slippery Rock last Wednesday.
The Golden Eagles were blanked 2-0 by visiting California in another Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference duel at Memorial Stadium Saturday.
Freeburg has four shots, one on goal, as a reserve in every game for Clarion, which is 2-4.

ERIE — Freshman midfield McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield) saw action when Penn State Behrend extended its winning streak to four games by beating host Grove City, 2-0, for the first time since 2009 on Tuesday, Sept. 16.
The Lions were edged 1-0 by Washington & Jefferson at Behrend Field Saturday and are 6-2 against non-conference competition.
Aleksivich has appeared in seven games with one shot that was on goal.

FOOTBALL
LOCK HAVEN — Junior starting running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) went over the century mark in all-purpose yards for the third game in a row Saturday, but Lock Haven was unable to crack the win column as Indiana University of Pennsylvania disappointed most of the 1,376 fans at Hubert Jack Stadium by staving off a Bald Eagle second half comeback to prevail 21-16.
Swales carried 12 times for 22 yards, caught three passes for 21 yards and returned three kickoffs for 62 yards.
He’s averaging 118 all-purpose yards with 128 on the ground in 48 totes, 72 on 10 pass receptions and 154 on seven kickoff runbacks.
Graduate student Trey Campman (Clearfield) saw action at wide receiver and on special teams for IUP, which is 2-1 with a 1-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference West Division Record.
Lock Haven is 0-2 in the PSAC East Division and 0-3 overall.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Freshman linebacker Christian Lezzer (Clearfield) was involved on a tackle for the Boston College kickoff unit in a 40-10 non-conference win over Maine that attracted 28,676 fans into Alumni Stadium Saturday.
Lezzer combined with classmate Connor Strachan for the stop.
The Eagles scored the last 30 points to improve to 3-1, their best start since 2009.
Lezzer has played in two games with two tackles, one a solo effort that was a sack for a loss of nine yards against Southern Cal.

CHEYNEY — Junior Eric White (Clearfield) handled longsnapping duties for Clarion as the Golden Eagles handed Cheyney its 24th consecutive loss, 27-6, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action at O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium Saturday.
Clarion (2-1) is 2-0 in the PSAC West Division.
White has one solo tackle.

MEN’S GOLF
GROVE CITY — Freshman Jason Thorp (Curwensville) toured the Grove City Country Club course in 84 strokes, 12 over par, as Thiel claimed fourth place in the seven-team Grove City Fall Invitational last Wednesday.
His 40-44 card matched that of Jeff Jenkins and tied for third for the Tomcats, who posted a 333 total.
Thorp tied for 12th in the individual results.

ROARING SPRING — Freshman Brett Gardner (Curwensville) carded an 87 over the par-72 Iron Masters Country Club course to help Pitt-Bradford finish runner-up to Penn State Behrend in the Penn State Altoona Invitational Monday, Sept. 15.
His season-low score tied for 31st among the 55 golfers from 11 teams.
