BLOOMING GROVE – State police have identified the suspect in the shooting of two state troopers in northeastern Pennsylvania.

State Police Commissioner Frank Noonan identified the suspect as 31-year-old Eric Matthew Frein of Canadensis in Monroe County.

Police say Frein is the man who shot and killed 38-year-old Cpl. Bryon Dickson and critically wounded Trooper Alex Douglass outside the Blooming Grove state police barracks on Friday night. Noonan said approximately 200 law enforcement officials are searching for Frein as his whereabouts are unknown.

Noonan said Frein is considered armed and “extremely dangerous.” Police said Frein is a survivalist who expressed desire to kill law enforcement officers and to commit mass murder.

Blooming Grove is approximately 20 miles from Canadensis.

Frein was charged with first-degree murder, homicide of a law enforcement officer and related offenses.
