CLEARFIELD – District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced Clearfield County’s Fugitive of the Week for the week of Sept. 15.

Shaw identified the fugitive as Paul William Witherite, 27, of McAteer Street, Houtzdale. Witherite is wanted for failure to appear at criminal call on Sept. 4.

On March 11, Trooper Joshua Janosko of the Pennsylvania State Police, Clearfield barracks, filed a criminal complaint against Witherite. He charged Witherite with theft by unlawful taking; receiving stolen property; criminal conspiracy; criminal mischief; and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Dec. 8, 2013, the Pennsylvania State Police received a report about the theft of a motor vehicle. Upon investigation it was found that Witherite had unlawfully removed the vehicle from a residence in Houtzdale and sold the vehicle for scrap metal.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for May 7, at which time all charges were held for court. On Sept. 4, Witherite failed to appear for criminal call and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Witherite is described as follows a Caucasian male standing 5 feet, 9 inches tall. He has blue eyes and brown hair.
