A quartet of former Clearfield Area High School and Curwensville Area High School athletes made their collegiate debuts in openers for the fall season Saturday, while a fifth began her sophomore campaign.
In all, more than 20 athletes who competed for Bison, Lady Bison, Golden Tide and Lady Tide teams are listed on college rosters.
Included are Boston College linebacker Christian Lezzer (Clearfield) and Marist (N.Y.) University offensive linemen Hunter Keith (Clearfield), freshmen reserves who did not see action Saturday.
Boston College defeated Massachusetts 30-7 in Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots, at Foxborough, while Marist lost 28-7 to Sacred Heart at Fairfield, Conn.

MEN’S GOLF
BRADFORD — Freshman Jason Thorp (Curwensville) carded an 84 over the par-72 Pine Acres Country Club course to help Thiel claim third place in the 11-team Pitt-Bradford Invitational Saturday.
Freshman Brett Gardner (Curwensville) posted a 92 for Pitt-Bradford, which finished ninth with a 343 total.
Penn State Behrend won the tourney with a 311 total, four strokes better than Elmira (N.Y.)
Thiel posted a 316 with Thorp the No. 4 finisher for the Tomcats. He tied for 26th place in the field of 58 golfers.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
ERIE — Freshman midfielder McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield) came off the bench in both games as Penn State Behrend defeated Oberlin 5-0 Saturday and Baldwin Wallace 3-2 Sunday to earn the championship of the Herb Lauffer Memorial Tournament at Behrend Field.
Freshman defender Katie Powers (Clearfield) also played in the opener.

WOMEN’S CROSS COUNTRY
LEWISBURG — St. Francis sophomore Rebecca Johnson (Grampian/Curwensville Area H.S.) was the 42nd runner to cross the finish line in Bucknell’s Bison Open at the West Fields Saturday.
Her time for the three-mile course was 19:51.
