CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area High School Bison Marching band members, under the direction of Raymond Mandell, were nominated by the Moshannon Valley Black Knights marching band to compete in the Ice Bucket challenge to raise awareness and funds for ALS.

Along with nearly 100 music students, (front row) Caleb Strause, Rachel Mandell, Devin Carns, (back row) Joel Watson and Gavin Starr successfully completed the challenge on Aug. 27 at the Clearfield High School.

Drum majors, Rachel Duke and Dalton Condon, invited the Mount Pleasant, Bellefonte and State College bands to also participate in raising awareness for ALS through their own events. The Bison Marching Band will be making a donation to the ALS or Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis foundation.

Events like these not only bring awareness to this disease that currently has no treatment or cure, but also promote the spirit of friendship and community and build pride and self-confidence in our youth. Family, friends and fans who weren’t able to attend the event can view the video on the Clearfield Music Facebook page.

Band members would like to thank the JG Food Warehouse for donating the 160 pounds of ice needed to chill the water for the challenge.
