Penn State Altoona to Host Community Carnival for 75th Anniversary Celebration

ALTOONA – Penn State Altoona will host a community carnival to celebrate its 75th anniversary on Sept. 13.

The carnival theme was chosen to signify the campus’s former use as the Ivyside Amusement Park, a 38-acre amusement park that was home to the world’s largest concrete swimming pool.

Penn State Altoona purchased the abandoned park in 1947. It then relocated the college from downtown Altoona to this site.

The community is invited to enjoy food, Creamery ice cream, inflatables, rides, games of chance and a live Dixieland band on campus from 1 p.m. – 5 p.m., and then an outdoor showing of the movie Maleficent on the intramural fields. The movie will be followed by a fireworks display.

The event is free and open to the public, with food for purchase.
