HUSTON TOWNSHIP – A 73-year-old Penfield man, Arnold W. Burkett, was killed in an accident involving a tri-axle truck Wednesday on Hoovertown Road in Huston Township, reported the state police at DuBois.
Larry W. Kunes, 65, of Weedville was traveling northbound in his tri-axle. Burkett was traveling westbound on Mount Pleasant Road and stopped at its intersection with Hoovertown Road. Burkett then pulled out to travel southbound and into the path of Kunes’ tri-axle.
Kunes’ tri-axle subsequently struck the driver’s side door of the Burkett vehicle. Burkett’s vehicle was pushed northbound across the southbound lane, where it impacted with the guiderails. After that it slid and crossed back into the northbound lane.
After the collision, the Kunes tri-axle traveled across the southbound lane of Hoovertown Road before going through the guiderails off of the east side. It then overturned onto its side, facing northbound, according to state police.
Burkett was pronounced dead at the scene by Assistant Deputy Coroner Kimberly Snyder. Kunes sustained moderate injuries in the accident and was taken to DuBois Penn Highlands for medical treatment, state police said.
State police were assisted at the scene by the Penfield Volunteer Fire Department and fire police and Bennetts Valley Emergency Medical Services.
