BROOKVILLE — Sophomore Brandon Orsich turned in an impressive performance on the mound for his first victory and Clearfield made the most of seven hits to defeat Brookville 10-2 in a non-league schoolboy baseball game at McKinley Field Wednesday.
Curtis Collins drove in three runs with two singles and a sacrifice fly while Josh Sorbera had two hits and two RBIs for the Bison.
Orsich struggled only in the fourth inning, when the Raiders got to him for four of their five hits and both runs, one of which was unearned.
The right-hander finished strong in his third start, retiring the last 10 Raiders he faced with two strikeouts in each of the last three innings.
The complete game, his longest stint in 10 appearances, was his second and just the third for the Bison, now 3-11.
Orsich, who also had 1-2-3 first and third innings, wound up with eight strikeouts and only one walk.
The Bison gave him a 2-0 lead to work with on a clutch two-out single by Josh Sorbera in the first frame and continued to peck away with singletons in their next two at-bats.
Clearfield then made it no-contest, 8-0, with a four-run outburst in the fourth, parlaying run-scoring hits by Logan Puit, Jon Janocko and Erik Sellers with three Brookville (2-11) misplays.
Two more Raider errors and a sacrifice fly by Collins put the Bison in double figures in the seventh.
Clearfield returns to its home diamond for a home make-up game against Bald Eagle Area Thursday and close a busy week at Philipsburg-Osceola Friday in Mountain League action.
