CURWENSVILLE — Curwensville Area High School junior guard Ciara Strickland’s outstanding season on the hardwood was rewarded with head coaches of the Moshannon Valley League and Allegheny Mountain League selecting her for their all-star teams.
She also was named to the second of three units on the 2014 All American Awards & Engraving/D9Sports.com All-District 9 Team that honored 19 girls basketball players.
Strickland accounted for nearly 41 percent of the Lady Tide scoring with 442 points, a total that ranked No. 6 among all district players, some whose totals were enhanced by deeper runs in the playoffs.
Her 19.2 average was third-best in the district.
Strickland also doled out 64 assists, pulled down 94 rebounds, blocked 15 shots and had 83 steals for the Lady Tide, who won all eight Moshannon Valley League games for their first title since 2007 and finished 15-8, their first winning record in seven years.
She just missed becoming the third member of the Lady Tide 1,000-Point Club as she will go into her senior season with 999 points and 60 three-point field goals.
Joining Strickland on the All-Moshannon Valley League Team are Taylor Kolesar and Christie Sabol of West Branch, Ally Kronenwetter and Hannah Kitko of Moshannon Valley and Lindsay Welteroth of Harmony.
