Ivyside Dance Ensemble Inspired by Fahrenheit 451

ALTOONA – Penn State Altoona’s Ivyside Dance Ensemble will perform May 1-2 at 7:30 p.m. in the Misciagna Family Center for Performing Arts.  Tickets are $5 for Penn State Altoona students and $7 for general admission. Children under 12 are free.

Choreographed by KT Huckabee, assistant professor of dance and integrative arts, “Maddening Madness” is a modern ballet, inspired by the classic novel, Fahrenheit 451. The dance consists of multiple sections that follow the plot of Ray Bradbury’s thrilling story.

A wide range of styles are used to capture the characters and themes of the book.  Live music forms the soundtrack with a rock quintet headed by Rick Wertz.

Published in 1953, Fahrenheit 451 is famously known for its eerie prophetic qualities, as it describes a futuristic society in which literature and the wisdom of books are forbidden. Attendees will experience this tale as the dance program transfers it onto the stage.

In an ever-increasing media-based society, this performance will surely leave you pondering the relevancy of this book to our current lives. Could we be approaching a society as seen in Fahrenheit 451?

Tickets may be purchased at the box office, Monday – Friday, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and before and during all performances. For further information, call the box office at 814-949-5452 or visit the Penn State Altoona Web site at www.altoona.psu.edu.
