DUBOIS – The DuBois Business College has announced the appointment of Alan Assad as the director of new programs. As director, he will oversee the development of new programs and initiatives started at the DBC.
Assad is extremely familiar with the day-to-day operation of the DBC, having been an education and design consultant. Prior to his appointment, he served in several capacities at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh: online instructor, instructor and administrator.
He also provided consulting experience as an Education and Design Consultant with John Russo’s Movie Academy in Pittsburgh, which is of great value to DBC’s own John Russo Movie Making Program. Additionally, he created art instruction curricula for the Art Institute of Colorado, Fort Lauderdale, Philadelphia, and Seattle and the Art Institute International in Madrid, Spain. He is also an author of articles for and is published in “Trans-World Education” magazine.
As an instructor at Art Institute International’s Pittsburgh campus, Assad instructed students in both traditional design and rendering and computer assisted Industrial Design course work. As a consultant, he organized and facilitated DACUM (Design a Curriculum) brainstorming sessions for the Art Institutes International from which he designed and produced state approved and accredited instructional packages and degree granting programs.
In order to serve the needs of emerging industries, he conducted multiple DACUM sessions for Art Institute International to spearhead a new concept of instruction titled “Industrial Design Technology.” The major educates students in the traditional disciplines associated with industrial designers, but interprets them within the motion picture, theme park and other entertainment-related fields. The resultant curriculum is a unique blend of product design, special make-up effects, environmental design, robotics and model construction.
Assad is the former academic department director of interior design and of industrial design at the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He received a Bachelor’s degree in industrial design from Carnegie-Mellon and a Master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh.
The DBC is a long-standing higher educational institution with the main campus centrally located in DuBois and branch campuses in Oil City and Huntingdon, and a new satellite campus to open soon in Philipsburg.
