KUTZTOWN — Redshirt sophomore defensive back Derek Morgan (Clearfield) made one of five interceptions for Slippery Rock (4-1) that kept the nationally-ranked Kutztown passing attack in check during a 58-10 rout in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference cross-over game Saturday afternoon.
His second career pick at the SR-14 terminated the winless Golden Bears’ drive for a tying score midway through the first quarter, and The Rock rolled up a 35-3 halftime lead to quiet the crowd of 4,251 at University Field.
Morgan also registered two solo tackles and one assist for a season total of 24 stops, fourth most among Slippery Rock defenders.

EDINBORO — Sophomore Beau Swales (Clearfield) went over the century mark in all-purpose yards in his best all-around game for Lock Haven (2-3) in a 30-6 loss to Edinboro Saturday evening.
He carried six times for 14 yards, established career highs with three pass receptions for 43 yards and averaged 17.3 yards on three kickoff returns for the Bald Eagles in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference cross-over clash that attracted 4,681 fans into Sox Harrison Stadium.
Graduate student wide receiver Jesse Hoover (Curwensville) had one reception for six yards.
Increased snaps in the backfield increased Swales’ season totals to 14 carries for 32 yards and five catches for 55 yards in addition to 16 kickoff runbacks for 310 yards, a 19.4 average.
Hoover continues to be Lock Haven’s top receiver with 22 catches and 223 yards with one touchdown.

INDIANA — Redshirt junior Trey Campman (Clearfield) caught his first pass for undefeated and nationally-ranked Indiana University of Pennsylvania (5-0) on a special Homecoming afternoon for a crowd of 4,237 at George P. Miller Stadium Saturday.
His 14-yard reception set up a fourth quarter touchdown as the Crimson Hawks, who were No. 7 in the American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II Top 25 last week, crushed winless Millersville 36-3 on the turf that officially was named Frank Cignetti Field in honor of the former IUP head coach.
Redshirt freshman Curtis Frye (Clearfield) shared quarterback chores for Millersville, completing four of nine passes for 49 yards with one interception. He was sacked once, resulting in minus-six yards for two keepers.
Frye has connected on 18 of 30 aerials for 230 yards and one touchdown, a passing efficiency rating of 128.73. He is minus-34 yards for the 10 times he’s kept the ball.

HUNTINGDON — Freshman defensive back Jordan Russell (Curwensville) made one solo stop and assisted on two tackles for Juniata (3-2, 2-2 Centennial Conference) in a 65-10 loss to unbeaten and No. 14-ranked Johns Hopkins (5-0, 4-0) in front of 625 followers at Knox Stadium Saturday afternoon.
In four games, Russell has seven tackles, two of them solo, plus one pass break-up and one fumble recovery.

PITTSBURGH — Graduate student Nick Redden (Clearfield) made his 15th career start at center as Duquesne (2-2) relied on its defense for three touchdowns in a 27-14 non-conference victory over West Liberty (2-3) in front of 1,816 fans at Rooney Field Saturday afternoon.
Redden also was on the turf four times as a punt protector for the Dukes.

EAST STROUDSBURG — Sophomore long snapper Eric White (Clearfield) and his Clarion (3-2) teammates endured a long evening in Eiler-Martin Stadium Saturday with East Stroudsburg (4-1) amassing 692 yards for a 48-28 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference cross-over game win enjoyed by most of the 2,300 fans.
White has been involved in three tackles for the Golden Eagle punt unit.

LYCOMING — Junior Zach Fannin (Clearfield) averaged 55 yards on four kickoffs as Lycoming (4-1) upended No. 16-ranked Delaware Valley 19-16 Saturday to claim the outright lead in the Middle Atlantic Conference for the first time since late in the 2008 season.
A week after knocking off then-No. 24 Widener 16-14, the Warriors made it an enjoyable afternoon for the partisan-crowd of 3,245 at David Person Field by improving to 4-0 in the MAC while handing the Aggies their first setback after four victories.

MEN’S GOLF
SUGARLOAF — Sophomore John Gaylor (Clearfield) carded an 85 at the Valley Country Club to tie teammate Derek Buganza (Brockway) for sixth place as Penn State DuBois won the Penn State Hazleton Invitational Sept. 30 with a 339 aggregate score.
John Kane (DuBois) led the Lions and placed second overall with an 81.
The Lions’ second tourney win capped an outstanding first season in the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference with a 30-7 record.
