Washington, DC, United States (4E) – The FBI has asked the public for information about the ex-Navy reservist who went into a shooting rampage at the Washington Navy Yard and killed a dozen people Monday morning to find out the motive of the shooter, who was shot dead by police.

CASD Discusses Instituting Academic Letters
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Area High School’s students have long been recognized with varsity letters for their participation and successes in athletics. Now, Principal Tim Janocko and Teacher Justin Hazelton are looking to institute academic letters to recognize the successes of CAHS students in the classroom.
“We would like to establish academic letters,” said Janocko. “We have letters for our athletes and want something similar for academics.”
Walker Endorses Regionalization at Town Hall Meeting
CLEARFIELD – C. Alan Walker, secretary of the state Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) endorsed regionalization and touted its benefits to municipal officials during a “DCED on the Road” town hall meeting Tuesday night at the Florian Banquet Hall.
Walker said at some point, there needed to be some dialogue about the potential merger of Clearfield Borough and Lawrence Township into a third-class city. “I know some of you don’t want to hear this,” he said, “but it would be so much better for both and just makes sense.”
DCED Reps. Discuss Community and Industrial Growth at Town Hall Meeting
CLEARFIELD – Representatives from the state Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) discussed community and industrial growth in Clearfield during a “DCED on the Road” town hall meeting Tuesday night at the Florian Banquet Hall.
DCED Secretary C. Alan Walker said he wanted to bring representatives from his office to Clearfield to help the region, which has lagged behind the rest across the state. He also wanted to encourage municipal officials to be more aggressive in seeking out state funding for various projects in the Clearfield area.
Board Member Concerned over Title I Reading Program at CASD
CLEARFIELD – During personnel discussions at Monday night’s committee meetings, Clearfield school board member Gail Ralston raised great concerns with the district’s Title I reading program not extending beyond the third grade.
Ralston said she realized the district only had so much funding; however, she didn’t believe Title I reading intervention should stop after the third grade. Ralston said the district had fourth and fifth grade students who were in need of help that could only be provided by a reading specialist.
LT Supers Discuss Sewage Repairs
CLEARFIELD – Lawrence Township Supervisor Ed Brown suggested at last night’s meeting that the supervisors solicit quotes for repairs to at least four and probably more manhole covers.
He said repairing the leaking manhole covers will help mitigate the stormwater inflow to its sewage collection lines. He said this will help reduce the fines imposed by the state Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) for overflow discharge caused by stormwater inflow through Clearfield Municipal Authority’s sanitary sewer system into the West Branch of the Susquehanna River.
Parade of Paws Returns to CRC’s Pumpkin Run
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Revitalization Corp.’s third annual Fall Festival/Pumpkin Run 5K will take place Oct. 12.
The Pumpkin Run will be held rain or shine with registration from 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. The race will officially begin at 8:30 a.m. The CRC will also be hosting its second-ever “Parade of Paws,” a Trial Mile again this year.
Hearing Continued for Man Accused of Impersonating Federal Agent
CLEARFIELD – A West Decatur man accused of impersonating a federal agent and taking money from an elderly couple had his preliminary hearing continued by Magisterial District Judge Richard Ireland during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Clearfield Borough Gets $3M for Streetscape Project
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Borough Operations Manager Leslie Stott announced at last night’s meeting the award of a $3 million grant through the state Department of Transportation (PennDOT) to fund a streetscape project in downtown Clearfield.

Judge: Proposed Treasure Lake Borough is not “Desirable”
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman has decided that the evidence is “clear and convincing” that it’s not desirable for Treasure Lake to separate from Sandy Township and to incorporate as its own borough.
