PHILIPSBURG — A flash of lightning interrupted play in the third inning of the District 5 Little League 11-and-12 All-Star Tournament showdown between Clearfield and Philipsburg-Osceola at Homer Maney Memorial Field Tuesday evening.
Minutes later, a heavy downpour soaked the diamond and any fans who hadn’t already scurried to their vehicles.
P-O, striving to build on a 2-1 lead, had runners at second base and third base with two outs when the winner’s bracket quarterfinal was suspended.
The teams will return Wednesday to resume action at 6 p.m., with the winner advancing to meet either Four-Leaf Clover or Tri-County Thursday.
All of the runs were posted in the first inning.
Clearfield’s Nathan Barr led off with a double to right center and scored on two wild pitches.
With Harrison Peacock stationed at third after a walk and two more wild pitches, P-O ace Micah Martin began to pound the strike zone and prevented further trouble with three of his seven strikeouts.
Martin then put the hosts ahead with a drive deep over the left field fence that also plated Carson Jones, who had walked.
The home run was the third in two games for Martin.
Both pitchers gave up two hits, with Clearfield’s Wyatt Porter striking out one and walking two.
