TANEYHILL AND THOMPSON GET FIRST WINS OF SEASON AT AMP

CLEARFIELD – Dwayne Taneyhill of Bellwood won his first Randy Sterling Late Model feature at America’s Motorsports Park in Clearfield Saturday night while Darrin Thompson of Clearfield copped his first Clearfield County Metals Four Cylinder main of the season. Repeat winners included Denny Fenton of Clearfield in the Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub Semi Lates, Curtis Teats of Morrisdale in the Harter and Sons Garage Street Stocks and Hunter McCracken of Curwensville in the Quigley’s Pub Pure Stocks.

The Late Model feature began with 19 cars answering Allen Luzier’s green flag with Tom Decker Jr. beating George Dixon Jr. off the line at the start with a multi-car crash regrouping the field and sending Duane Stiner to the pits for the night. The race saw a number of cautions, but Dwayne Taneyhill sat in second and Bill Davis was third, with Luke Hoffner, Dan Gill and Dixon battling for the fourth. As the leader continued to be Decker with Taneyhill in second the fight for third was heating up, as the battle continued to be often three wide. Disaster struck for Davis on lap 18, as Davis had the center break out of a wheel, forcing him to stop while third, as Denny Fenton had nowhere to go and slammed into Davis. The final seven laps went non-stop with Decker leading the way to the finish for his first apparent win, but when he crossed the scales he came up light, not once but twice. The official top five at the finish were: Taneyhill winning over Hoffner, Dixon, Tom Vilello and Gill. Heat race wins went to Taneyhill, Dixon and Randy Sterling.

The Semi Late feature saw five cars making the call with Chad Desmett leading the first lap from his front row starting spot. By lap two, Denny Fenton took the lead and went on to grab his sixth win of the season. John Eckenrod was second with Randy Sterling, Dylan Fenton and Desmett completing the top five. Eckenrod won the heat.

The Street Stock feature was a survival of the fittest, as Tom Slack beat Johnny Linderpitz off the line on the start with Slack leading for two laps before Curtis Teats took the lead and set the pace. As he led, he sat through a number of cautions before the final eight laps went non-stop. Teats was able to pick up his third win of the season with Lindenpitz a close second. Jamie Price held on for third place with Tim Fannin fourth and Dustin Challingsworth in fifth. Teats and Dan Smeal split heat wins.

The Pure Stock feature saw Ryan Claycomb and Cody Hummel on the front row with Claycomb leading the first lap with Hummel taking the lead one lap later. Hummel and Hunter McCracken ran side-by-side for two laps before McCracken took the lead. Once he was in front, Jon Lee moved into second and set his sights on the leader, but Lee was not able to make it two wins in a row, as McCracken was able to hold off his challenges as he picked up his third win in four weeks. Lee, Hummel, Ben Krause and Justin Queen completed the top five. Heat wins were split between Lee and Queen.

The always entertaining Four Cylinders hit the track with Darrin Thompson taking the lead from Chris Yoder at the start, after Jesse Laughard and Mike Phillipson were involved in crashes on the start. After Thompson took the lead it was all him, as he was able to hold off a challenge from Jesse Short and Robert Lydic, but Short and Lydic tangled, with neither driver giving an inch on the other, thus both were black flagged for rough driving. On the lap 11 restart Thompson held off the challenges of Aaron Luzier, who tried every trick in the book to get the lead, but Thompson held on for the win. Luzier, Eric Luzier, Bryan Warren and Phillipson completed the top five. Heat wins went to Thompson and Eric Luzier.
