CLEARFIELD – Through the Volunteerism Always Pays (VAP) program, the Wal-Mart Foundation awards grants to eligible organizations where associates volunteer.

In 2013, the Woodland Distribution Center’s Wal-Mart associates volunteered hundreds of hours and generated a foundation grant in the amount of $5,000 to benefit the local Big Brothers Big Sisters program.

Lynda Saggese of BBBS said they were thrilled by the response from the associates who helped with the signature fundraiser “Bowl for Kids’ Sake.” She said the associates baked cookies, folded T-shirts and sorted prizes. During the event, Saggese said pizza was delivered, participants were registered and teams were greeted.

“These associates clearly demonstrate that taking care of their local community through supporting Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clearfield County is an important priority,” said Saggese.
