IRVINE TAKES 305 SPECIAL AS AMP GETS SECOND RACE UNDER BELT

CLEARFIELD – The R Bar and Quigley’s Bar presented a six division show at America’s Motorsports Park on Saturday night.

The feature winners included Roger Irvine of Irvona in the Race Saver 305 Sprints; Luke Hoffner of Turbotville in the Randy Sterling Late Models; Denny Fenton of Clearfield in the Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub Semi Late Models; Curtis Teats of Morrisdale in the Harter and Son’s Garage Street Stocks, Jim Challelingsworth of St. Mary’s in the Quigley’s Pub Pure Stocks and Stephanie Ivory of Coalport in the Clearfield County Metals Four Cylinders.

The Sprints took to the track first as a slim field made its way to the Clearfield oval for their first visit of the season. Roger Irvine and Craig Folmar led the field to the green flag, with fourth place Steve Kenawell taking the initial lead. He held on for three laps before Irvine wrestled the lead away from him. As Irvine led, second place was a tussle, with Dusty Shatzer in the position first, then Folmar had the spot, but several times it changed, but stayed the same at the start finish line. As the laps wore down, Folmar continued to reel in Irvine, but Irvine wanted the win badly and took Allen Luzier’s checkers. Folmar held on for second with Shatzer, Kenawell and Ron Aurand. The heat was won by Folmar.

Josh Jacoby and Randy Sterling led the Late Models to the start withSterling taking the lead, but disaster struck on lap three, as a tangle in turn four ended Sterling’s night, as he ended up at the hospital with a badly broken finger. The restart saw Luke Hoffner on the point and he led the event from there to the end, but local boy Chris Farrell was in second and trying every trick he knew to get the lead away from Hoffner, but Hoffner prevailed over Farrell, Andrew Gordon, Duane Stiner and Justin Kanouff.

The Street Stock feature saw newcomers Daryl Whetstone and Dan Smeal on the front row, with fourth place starter Tony Brown taking the lead for the first two laps, then he pitted after spinning while leading. This gave the lead over to Curtis Teats, who was late due to attending his prom, but he made it to the track in time for the feature. Teats led the rest of the way, but he had to deal with opening night winner Tim Fannin who was throwing everything he had at the young leader, but Teats wasn’t about to be denied, as he took his first win of the young season. Fannin was second with Brent Lee, Paul Blake and Ray Billotte completing the top five. Heat wins were split by Jamie Price and Fannin.

ThePure Stock feature saw Jim Challingsworth and Ben Krause on the fron trow and it was Krause who took the lead, he had Challingsworth in second for the first five laps, then opening night winner Cody Hummel moved into second on lap six and took the lead from Krause on lap 10. Oddly enough, both drivers spun in turns one and two, on their own, thus bringing out the yellow. This sent both to the rear, and gave Challingsworth the lead back, who held off a hard charging Hummel for the victory. Hummel was second with Hunter McCracken, Eric Lucas and Krause. The heat went to Challingsworth.

TheFour Cylinders once again gave the fans their money’s worth, as Tom Pavelko and Josh Henry led the field to the green flag. Numerous cautions slowed the race, but Pavelko took the lead and set the pace, with Stephanie Ivory in second and Henry third. As the race wore on,Pavelko was setting a torrid pace, with Shawn Fedder in second and trying to reel the leader in, but Pavelko was tough, but on lap eight, he broke, and parked the #15, giving the lead to Ivory, who was able to hold off a hard charging Sam Orf, Jr. for her second career win, her first at AMP. She also picked up the win Friday night at Dog Hollow. The top five were: Ivory, Orf, Henry, David Helsel and Walt Fedder. The heat wins went to Shawn Fedder and Ivory.

Thebrand new Semi Late Model class once again had just two cars, with the gamble being a Fenton would take the win. Denny Fenton led cousin Dylan Fenton the entire distance to get his second straight win.
