CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced the capture of a wanted fugitive.

Shaw identified the fugitive as Jarred David Peters, 21, of South Sixth Street, Clearfield. Peters was added to the Clearfield County Fugitive of the Week list on April 15.

On Feb. 25, Patrolman Joseph Witherite of the Clearfield Borough Police Department filed a criminal complaint, charging Peters with forgery, theft by deception, theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property.

An affidavit of probable cause filed by Witherite states that on Jan. 20, the Clearfield Borough Police Department received a report of a theft of money orders. Upon investigation, it was found that Peters had taken possession of two of the victim’s money orders and had forged his name on the money orders. Peters then cashed the two money orders and retained all of the money.

On April 10, Peters failed to appear for a preliminary hearing and a warrant was issued for his arrest

Shaw stated that on Thursday, officers from the Clearfield Borough Police Department apprehended Peters at a location in Clearfield. Peters is currently lodged in the Clearfield County Jail.

Shaw thanked the Clearfield Borough and Lawrence Township police departments for their assistance with this case.

Anyone with knowledge of a fugitive’s location is asked to call Clearfield County Crime Stoppers at 800-376-4700. All calls to Crime Stoppers are confidential.
