DuBois Central Catholic Defeats Golden Tide 8-1

CURWENSVILLE – The Curwensville Area High School baseball team on Monday afternoon was simply not ready to play; while the visiting Cardinals of DuBois Central Catholic (DCC) were.  And the result was evident in an 8-1 victory for DCC.

Golden Tide head coach Denny Johns didn’t waste words afterwards, “I thought we just didn’t show up to play this game this afternoon.  That was a poor effort from the very first pitch.”

The Cardinals picked up eight hits, all singles, while receiving ten walks and a hit batsman in improving to 2-0 over the current inclement weather season.

DCC scored two runs in the top half of the first inning on four walks and an error.

With five hits in the second inning, the Cardinals tacked on three more runs putting them in front 5-0, which on this afternoon was more than enough to take care of the Tide.

Curwensville did manage a lone run, in the bottom half of the fourth inning, as Travis Lansberry lead off with a single to left field and later scored on a fielder’s choice by catcher Jason Bloom.

And that was the highlight of the day for Curwensville, which prompted Johns to close with, “We have got to start hitting against decent pitching.  And take nothing away from the effort by their (DCC) starting pitcher (Phil Myers), but we need to step it up.”

Dom Goldbach had two hits and three RBI’s to pave the way for the Cardinals win.

Sophomore left hander Phil Myers picked up the victory, going four innings and allowing just one run on two hits while striking out five.

The Golden Tide are now 1-4 and will host Brockway on Tuesday at 4:15 pm.
