WINGATE — Clearfield grabbed an early 3-0 lead, but Bald Eagle Area stormed back to defeat the visiting Bison 8-3 in a Mountain League schoolboy baseball game Thursday afternoon.
Both teams were coming off season-opening wins, and the Bison got the jump on the Eagles with a run in the second inning and two in the third.
Singles by Josh Kennedy and Sawyer Rowles around a free pass produced the first marker.
Jon Janocko and Spencer Herrington drove in the other two with a double and a single, respectively.
The Eagles got to Wyatt Westen in the bottom of the third with four runs on half of their 10 hits, a two-run single by Cole Long putting them in front.
Winner Cole Cleaver and reliever Jeff Bennett shut out the Bison over the last four frames while Logan Reese and Dylan Womer provided insurance with two ribbies apiece.
Herrington paced Clearfield’s nine-hit attack with a trio of singles. Kennedy had two hits, one a double.
Devin Jones replaced Westen on the mound during BEA’s three-run fourth inning and allowed three hits and one run in 2-1/3 innings. He fanned two batters and walked none.
Clearfield will return to Centre County again Friday to take on Bellefonte in a league game that originally was scheduled to be played at the Bison Sports Complex.
The Bison will host the Raiders on April 30.
