UNIVERSITY PARK – With spring break approaching, March 4-8, Penn State University police are issuing the following safety tips for students:
Travel
— Make sure your friends and relatives know where you will be vacationing, when you will depart, know your specific itinerary and expected return date.
— Carry only necessary credit cards and money.
— Avoid carrying or displaying large amounts of cash when you shop.
— Carry your purse/wallet carefully.
— Walk in well-lit areas.
— Carry your cellular phone at all times.
— Be aware of street peddlers with deals that are “too good to pass up.” If it sounds too good to be true, it is.
— Don’t drink and drive and always wear seat belts.
— Don’t consume alcohol in excess; be mindful of your limit.
— Go out with people you know and trust, and who will make sure everyone is safe. Especially watch out for friends who are intoxicated.
Property Protection
— Close and lock resident hall doors and windows prior to leaving for break.
— Close all shades, drapes and blinds.
— Take portable items — such as televisions, computers, iPods, etc. — home with you.
— Never leave money and/or valuables in your room over spring break.
