SPRING MILLS – The Clearfield Area High School girls basketball team lost to Penns Valley on Monday night, 47-37, on the Lady Rams home floor, to drop to 5-15 on the year.
The Lady Bison defeated the Lady Rams earlier this season, at Clearfield, 49-39.
It was a tail of two halves for the Lady Bison, as they were just about doubled up at the half, trailing 34-16, thanks to a second quarter 18-6 edge for Penns Valley.
Clearfield head coach, Joe Castganolo, spoke after the game, saying, “After a very sluggish first half we came out and played a much better second half. And I was very proud of how we responded in that second half because the girls didn’t quit.”
The Lady Bison got down to business in the third period as they outscored their hosts 16-6 to cut the Lady Rams lead to only eight after the third frame, 40-32.
Clearfield could not find the basket enough in a very low scoring final period, 7-5 in favor of Penns Valley, as the Lady Rams pulled out the win.
Leading the Clearfield offense was Dakota Farmery with 14 and Breanna Peters adding 13.
The Lady Rams also had two girls in double figures, as Ashley Struble hit for 12 and teammate Mackenzie Ironside tossed in 11.
In the junior varsity game it was Penns Valley getting the sweep, in defeating the Clearfield youngsters 44-24. Emily Ryan had eight for the Lady Bison.
Clearfield entertains Philipsburg-Osceola Tuesday on Senior Night with the JV game tipping off at 6 pm and the varsity to immediately follow.
Earlier this season the Lady Bison edged the Lady Mounties at Philipsburg, 56-54.
