Peters Breaks Lady Bison Career Rebounding Record in Loss to Central

MARTINSBURG — Senior Breanna Peters broke the Clearfield Area High School girls career rebounding record, but the Lady Bison had little else to celebrate Wednesday night as homestanding Central bolted to a 27-12 halftime lead en route to a 45-30 Mountain League win.

Peters pulled down a Lady Bison miss with 5:02 left in the third quarter to surpass the 680 total posted by 2004 graduate Kristen Aveni.

Coach Joey Castagnolo was happy to see the 5-9 post player claim the record.

“A lot of hard work went into that,” he said.

Peters, who will depart CAHS with four letters, finished with 10 rebounds, boosting her total to 683, and also had a team-high eight points.

Clearfield (5-10) began the ML’s second cycle without second-leading scorer and rebounder Dakota Farmery and Tessa Munshower, unavailable because of illness.

The Lady Bison already were down one starter, junior Brianna Spencer sidelined since the holidays because of a knee injury that requires surgery.

They did reduce their deficit to 11 points by the end of the third quarter but couldn’t mount a serious challenge in the final eight minutes.

Mikaela McGraw had a game-high 12 points as Central (6-7) evened its league record at 4-4 and dropped Clearfield to 3-5.

There was no junior varsity game.

The Lady Bison will be back on their home floor Friday against Huntingdon.
