AMESVILLE — The Curwensville Area High School boys basketball team finally cracked the win column Wednesday night, outscoring host Moshannon Valley in every quarter to defeat the Black Knights 74-49.
A trio of Golden Tide players hit double figures in the Moshannon Valley League game.
Tanner Elensky earned game honors with 17 points, Austin Jacobson checked in with a career-high 14 and Brett Gardner added 11 as the Golden Tide ditched its 10-game losing streak.
“We’ve been close, but this is the first time we’ve been able to break through,” Curwensville coach Shane Pentz said. “Kyle Johns, Alex Olson, Jacobson, Trey Rauckhorst and Nate Kurtz all did a good job rebounding.
“We were struggling a little bit in the first quarter, and Harrison Bloom hit a three in only his second varsity game for us to help open things up.”
The Golden Tide took a 17-12 lead into the second period and went on to balloon it to 35-20 by halftime.
Eric Sherkel and Nathan Bailey topped Mo Valley (0-10) with 11 points apiece.
The Golden Tide junior varsity also was victorious, 42-33, with Jonathan Miller accounting for 12 points.
Next up for Curwensville is a trip to Ridgway Tuesday for the first of three games against Allegheny Mountain League opponents next week.
