CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. — Senior defensive back David Kalgren (Curwensville) added another exceptional effort, highlighted by his sixth interception of the season and a touchdown reception, to an outstanding four-year career as one of the stars in Oberlin’s biggest victory in many years on Saturday.
The visiting Yeomen stunned North Coast Athletic Conference co-leader and No. 10-ranked Wabash 31-16 to disappoint the majority of the 1,831 Senior Day fans in Hollett Little Giant Stadium.
Kalgren’s contributions in Oberlin’s first win over a nationally ranked team since 2003 and first win over Wabash since 1945 were nine tackles, the interception, three kickoff returns for 60 yards, two punt returns for 10 yards and the TD catch-and-run that proved to be the deciding score.
Oberlin (4-5, 3-3 NCAC) held a 12-10 lead edge late in the third quarter when Kalgren lined up as the inside receiver in a trips-right set for a trick play that had wideout Robin Witjes go in motion from the left side, grab a lateral pass from quarterback Josh Mandel and quickly unload a perfect pass.
Kalgren, who ran a banana-post route, was wide open at the Wabash 25 to haul in the aerial and scamper to the end zone. The reception was the first in a career during which he enjoyed a productive rookie season when switched to quarterback because of injuries before moving back to defense and earning berths on the All-NCAC second team as a sophomore and junior.
The play was one of four considered for D3football.c0m Play of the Week.
After the Yeomen widened their lead to 31-16, Kalgren came up with one of three interceptions in the final five minutes that prevented any Wabash (7-2, 4-2 NCAC).
Oberlin was selected OhioCollegeFootball.com Team of the Week, while Witjes was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after seven catches for 165 yards and two TDs to go with the TD pass and Mandel was tabbed NCAC Offensive Player of the Week for a 353-yard, four-TD performance.
Kalgren shares the NCAC lead for interceptions, is No. 1 in interception return yards (133) and is No. 2 in passes defended (12) with six break-ups in addition to his six picks.
In NCAA Division III national statistics, Kalgren is tied for third with two interception TD runbacks and tied for ninth with an average of .75 interceptions per game. He is 64th in punt return yards average per game (8.47).
Kalgren has returned 17 punts for 144 yards and 10 kickoffs for 180 yards.
He has recorded 42 tackles, including 31 solo stops.

SLIPPERY ROCK — Redshirt freshman free safety Derek Morgan (Clearfield) set up Slippery Rock’s second touchdown with his first career interception and 46-yard return and also assisted on one tackle as The Rock locked up a fourth consecutive winning season with a 35-7 win over Lock Haven in their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division finale seen by a crowd of 3,505 in Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Saturday afternoon.
Morgan’s big play enabled The Rock (6-4, 5-2 PSAC-West) to grab a 14-0 lead with just over four minutes off the clock en route to its fourth win in a row.
All of the scoring occurred in the first half as the Bald Eagles (0-10, 0-7) suffered their 52nd loss since their last win in 2007.
For Lock Haven, freshman running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) gained 16 yards on six carries and added five yards on one pass reception.
Redshirt junior wide receiver Jesse Hoover (Curwensville) also had a five-yard catch.
Redshirt freshman tackle Kyle Barrett (Curwensville) returned to the starting lineup after sitting out the previous game. He has six starts in eight games.
Morgan, with five starts in 10 appearances, has 19 solo tackles plus 16 assists in addition to the interception and three pass break-ups.
Hoover leads Lock Haven with three touchdown receptions among his 15 catches for 226 yards.
Swales has 42 carries for 94 net yards, three receptions for 14 yards, two kickoff returns for 34 yards and one tackle assist.

WILLIAMSPORT — Wide receiver Jarrin Campman (Clearfield) was one of 23 seniors honored prior to kickoff at David Person Field Saturday afternoon and then went out to catch two passes for 12 yards as Lycoming (7-2) relied on its ground attack to defeat Stevenson (Md.) 32-7 and stay in the Middle Atlantic Conference title chase.
The Warriors, tied for second at 7-1, can share the championship if they triumph over winless Misericordia at Dallas and Delaware Valley (7-2, 7-1 MAC) upends No. 12-ranked Widener (8-0, 7-0) Saturday.
In that event, the conference’s NCAA Division III Tournament bid would be determined by point differential between the three teams. Lycoming’s hopes hinge on Delaware Valley downing Widener by 15 points or less.
Campman’s 35 receptions, 485 yards and 10 touchdown all are tops for Lycoming pass-catchers.
He also has one TD among his 15 punt returns for a total of a team-high 66 points, with his 7.3-per-game average ranking fifth for non-kickers in the MAC. He’s sixth in TDs, seventh with 3.9 receptions per game and ninth with 53.9 receiving yards per game.
D-III stats show him sixth in punt return average at 16.20 per game and tied for 83rd in scoring.
Sophomore quarterback Tyler Jenny (Coalport/Glendale High School) saw his school-record streak for a completion percentage of 60 or better end at seven games because of a 9-for-19 outing.
He’s ranks among the MAC’s top five in most passing categories with 134 completions in 222 attempts (60.4 percent) for 1,404 yards and 16 touchdowns with only three interceptions and a 137.970 pass efficiency rating that ranks No. 73 in D-III. His 177.2 average for total offense is third highest in the MAC.

WEST POINT, N.Y. – Senior kicking specialist Parker Herrington (Clearfield) tacked on the extra points following the three Air Force (5-4) touchdowns in a surprising 41-21 loss to Army (2-7) Saturday afternoon that ended the Falcons’ hopes of retaining the Commander-In-Chief’s Trophy for a third consecutive year.
Because they lost 28-21 in overtime to Navy last month, the Falcons had to defeat the Black Knights and then have them beat the Midshipmen Dec. 8 in Philadelphia to keep the CIC Trophy.
However, Army dominated through three quarters to pile up a 35-7 lead and defeated Air Force for the first time in seven years before of a partisan Michie Stadium crowd of 37,707, earning an opportunity to prevail in the series between the military academies for first time since 1996.
Herrington’s trio of PATs, which padded his streak of successful conversions to 64 over two seasons, moved him into the top spot in Air Force scoring with 49 points on three field goals and 40 extra points.
His average of 5.4 points a game is good for sixth in the Mountain West Conference.

CLARION — Redshirt senior linebacker Nate Sipes (Curwensville) recorded two tackles, one a solo stop, and freshman center Eric White (Clearfield) snapped the ball for the kicking units in Clarion’s 48-13 loss to Edinboro (4-5) in their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference finale at Memorial Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The game, which attracted a crowd of 1,233, was taped by Sportsfever Television Network for airing Wednesday at 7 p.m. on ROOT Sports Pittsburgh.
Sipes, hampered by a foot injury that kept him out of two games and limited his action in three others the last month, sports 41 tackles, including 12 solo stops, and blocked one field goal in eight appearances while White has been involved in two tackles with the punt unit for the Golden Eagles, who finished 2-5 in the PSAC-West and are 4-6 overall.

ERIE — Freshman running back Alex Holland (Curwensville) made the tackle on the kickoff after once-beaten Indiana University of Pennsylvania, ranked No. 14 in the American Football Coaches Association NCAA Division II Poll and No. 6 in the Super Region I rankings, scored the deciding touchdown with 3:15 remaining to turn back stubborn Gannon 38-35 Saturday afternoon.
Only 756 fans turned out at Gannon University Field for what proved to be an all-important Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division win by the Crimson Hawks, who had to come from behind three times in the second half.
IUP (9-1) finished in a tie with Mercyhurst atop the PSAC-West at 6-1 and claimed its first division title since 2007 by virtue of a 31-13 victory over the Lakers on Oct. 20 and will host the conference championship game against Eastern Division king Shippensburg (10-0) Saturday. Kickoff is set for 2:05 p.m. at George P. Miller Stadium.
Crimson Hawk senior defensive back Johnny Franco (Tyrone) was named PSAC-West Defensive Player of the Week for his two interceptions in the final 1:30 that thwarted the upset bid by Gannon (2-8, 1-6).
Holland has 23 carries for 112 yards and three touchdowns as well as three tackles in nine games.

MOON TOWNSHIP — Redshirt junior starting center Nick Redden (Clearfield) and his Duquesne (5-4) teammates saw their hopes for repeating as Northeast Conference co-champs snuffed out Saturday when Robert Morris (3-6) pulled off a 17-13 shocker in front of 2,028 fans at Joe Walton Stadium and a ROOT Sports Pittsburgh, Fox College Sports and ESPN3 television audience.
The Dukes outgained their hosts by 62 yards but were held to one touchdown and two field goals in falling to 3-3 in the NEC.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
BLOOMSBURG — Junior forward Brooke Mohney (Bigler/Clearfield Area H.S.) finished with two goals, one a game-winner, for four points in her first season for Bloomsburg (6-10-1) after transferring from St. Francis University.
She tied for second on the Huskie scoring chart. Two of her four shots were on goal.
Bloomsburg, which had a 4-9-1 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference record, was shut out nine times and registered only 14 goals.
