CURWENSVILLE — The Curwensville Lady Tide volleyball team hosted the Punxsutawney Lady Chucks on Tuesday evening for “Think Pink” Night and were beaten three games to zero, the Lady Tide’s second loss to Punxsutawney this year.
Despite the loss, Head Coach Sandy Bailor was pleased with her team’s play, “Despite the loss I am very pleased with the way we played against a very good Punxsy team – this is the best I have seen our team play all season. Again we had several long volleys this evening with some outstanding defense and we won some of those volleys that we have been losing in the past few games. I feel Ciara and Katrina did a nice job taking something off on a block on some of their hard hits and in return we were able to run our offense and stayed on the attack. Alaina and Melanie need a nice job getting to that second ball to set up the offense. Tierra and Jazmin played really well defensively and my two freshman Shauna Guy and Haley McGarry provided us with some quality time on the court. Punxsy is a very solid hard hitting/defensive team and I felt we stayed right with them in every set. I feel if we continue to play like we did this evening we will win some matches down the stretch.”
With the 3-0 loss (21-25, 20-25, 18-25) the Lady Tide dropped to 4-9 on the season.
The Lady Tide junior varsity was also beaten to drop to 9-4. With the two freshman, mentioned above by Coach Bailor, being moved up to varsity recently, the JVs have found wins a bit harder to come by than they did earlier in the season.
The Lady Tide will travel to DuBois Central Catholic on Thursday night to take on the Lady Cardinals, a team the Lady Tide swept at home earlier in the season.
