DOYLESTOWN — Senior wideout Jarrin Campman (Clearfield) recovered a teammate’s fumble in the end zone for a touchdown that gave Lycoming (1-1) a 17-7 lead late in the first half and caught a 17-yard pass for the clinching score with 5:52 remaining as the Warriors knocked off preseason favorite Delaware Valley 24-14 in the Middle Atlantic opener for both teams Saturday afternoon.
The Aggies, who began defense of their 2011 MAC title ranked in the NCAA Division III Top 10 nationally but had fallen to No. 22 after losing 27-13 to Rowan in their opener, were in front 7-3 when a 1-yard quarterback sneak by sophomore Tyler Jenny (Coalport/Glendale High School) gave the Warriors their first lead against Delaware Valley since 2008.
Campman gave the Lycoming faithful among the 2,300 fans at James Work Memorial Field another chance to cheer by falling on the ball Matt Atkinson lost as he stretched for the end zone after a pass reception. That made it 17-7 at halftime.
With six minutes left and the Warriors clinging to a 17-14 advantage, Jenny was chased out of the pocket on a third-and-eight play but rolled right and found Campman in the back right corner of the end zone for the all-important insurance touchdown.
Campman had two catches for 31 yards and fielded one punt but lost two yards.
He is tied for third in the MAC with nine receptions, good for 74 yards.
In his second start, Jenny was 12-for-29 for 134 yards and added 34 yards on seven carries.

CHEYNEY — Freshman running back Alex Holland (Curwensville) made an auspicious debut in the Indiana University of Pennsylvania backfield with a team-high 96 yards and a pair of touchdowns in the second half as the 2-0 Crimson Hawks, ranked No. 23 in NCAA Division II, routed host Cheyney (1-1) 56-0 Saturday afternoon.
Only 463 fans were at O’Shields-Stevenson Stadium for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game, which IUP dominated with Harvie Tuck and Montay Green also hitting paydirt twice in the 42-0 first half.
Holland, who carried 19 times, scored on a 13-yard run to cap IUP’s first drive of the third quarter and added a three-yarder in the fourth quarter, when he also had a 33-yard jaunt.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. — Redshirt senior Nate Sipes (Curwensville) led the Clarion (1-1) defense with six solo tackles and nine total stops, but the Golden Eagles paid for eight turnovers with a 46-26 loss despite outgaining Long Island University-C. W. Post 538-375 Saturday.
The giveaways led to 39 points by the Pioneers in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game that was the first meeting between the two teams.
Freshman Eric White (Clearfield) handled longsnapping duties for the Golden Eagles.
Among PSAC defenders, Sipes is tied for 10th in tackles with 17, seven of them solo stops.

EAST STROUDSBURG — Redshirt junior wide receiver Jesse Hoover (Curwensville) caught two passes for a team-high 39 yards, freshman back Beau Swales (Clearfield) ran for 12 yards on four carries and redshirt freshman defensive end Kyle Barrett (Curwensville) got his first taste of action for Lock Haven (0-2) in a 31-0 loss to East Stroudsburg Saturday night.
The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game drew 1,200 fans to Eiler-Martin Stadium, and the Raiders rewarded them with a season-opening victory.
Hoover has picked up 43 yards on four receptions for the Bald Eagles, whose losing streak reached 44 games in a row with their second shutout setback.
Swales had two kickoff returns for 34 yards in Lock Haven’s opener.

SHIPPENSBURG — Redshirt freshman safety Derek Morgan (Clearfield) had one solo tackle and one assist in Slippery Rock’s 55-35 loss to Shippensburg (2-0) in non-conference action at Seth Grove Stadium Saturday.
Morgan has two tackles and two assists for The Rock (1-1).

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Senior Parker Herrington (Clearfield) kicked a 22-yard field goal to get Air Force Academy (1-1) on the scoreboard late in the first quarter and tacked on two extra points at Michigan Stadium Saturday afternoon, but No. 19 Michigan (1-1) outlasted the Falcons 31-25.
A crowd of 112,522 crammed into The Big House for the nationally-televised non-conference game and saw the Wolverines win a home opener for the 110th time.
Herrington, who was wide right on a 36-yard field goal try early in the first quarter, is one-for-three in three-point attempts and has nine extra points for a streak of 33 consecutive PATs.

UNIVERSITY PARK — Junior Gwenn Porter (Clearfield) of Penn State ran 6,000 meters over the Blue-White Golf Course in 25:03 at the Harry Grove Spiked Shoe Invitational Saturday.
The Lady Lions had five runners finish among the top 10 to total 25 points and best nine other teams.
