Borough Committees Recommend Resolutions for Approval

CLEARFIELD – The Planning and Community Development and Finance committees are recommending that the Clearfield Borough Council pass resolutions to ratify the Clearfield County Solid Waste Management Plan and to continue the DUI Task Force at next week’s regular meeting.

The Clearfield County Solid Waste Management Plan must be updated every 10 years. The Clearfield County Commissioners have already accepted an option from the Veolia Greentree Landfill for integrated municipal solid waste services. Its proposal also permits the county to use the Wayne Township Landfill located in Clinton County.

The proposed plan is currently being presented to the municipalities for ratification. After the 90-day ratification period, it will return to the commissioners for approval in approximately mid-September.

The Finance committee recommended approving a resolution to continue the DUI Task Force, which conducts checkpoints and roving patrols.

Additionally, Code Enforcement Officer, Larry Mack mentioned he’s been extremely busy with commercial permitting. He said there was also an application presented for a Local Economic Revitalization Tax Assistance Act (LERTA) request at the former Catalano Cycle Center. It was recommended to present the application to council, as Mack said it complies with code.

Clearfield Revitalization Corp. (CRC) Intern Chris Renaud was in attendance for the committee meeting with Main Street Manager Kellie Truman.

“In May, I was asked to begin thinking strategically about the problems that existed within the key institutions in the borough, for the borough and more specifically for the Clearfield Revitalization Corp.,” Renaud said.

“I have done that. I have also begun thinking strategically about a plan I would implement if I were in a position to deal with these problems. I’ve taken advantage of the opportunities that I found throughout the summer.”

Renaud created a document for the CRC to use to restructure, if necessary, to deal with the problems he identified. He explained that it’s in the infancy stages, and before his return to college, he wanted to update everyone. He thanked them for the privilege to work with Clearfield Borough.
