Upcoming Shaw Public Library Programs

CLEARFIELD – “Dream” was the word at Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library.  Guest storytellers Anne Betts and Peg Barton entertained children with bedtime stories and older youth created cultural crafts to help them sleep better at night.  Dream Big: Read programming continues next week with a look at the universe.

On July 17 at 10:30 a.m., Read-to-Me participants can “Be a Star” at the library.  Children will make a unique star craft to display outdoors.

School Age A and School Age B participants are invited to the library on July 18 at 10:30 a.m. for “The Star on the Wall.”  Youth will create a constellation projector using an empty round box.  All interested participants are asked to bring an appropriate round box with them to the program.

Finally, on July 19 at 8:00 p.m. School Age A and School Age B youth, young adults, and adults are encouraged to explore the night skies with amateur star gazer Nathan.  During “Star Gazing,” Nathan will guide those in attendance to learn about astronomy and the galaxy.  All those interested in attending should contact the front desk of the library to register.

The Conservatory will be open again this week for youth to redeem all reading and program attendance incentives.  Visit the front desk of the library on July 16 from 10:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and July 20 from 12:00 until 3:00 p.m. to receive any earned Planet Bills.  Youth are encouraged to bring any Star Coins from recent program attendance as well.

Own the Night and Between the Book Covers summer reading program participants should contact the front desk of the library to register for several great programs coming up.

First, adults are encouraged to sign-up for “Tips to Relieve Stress for a Better Night’s Rest” presented by personal trainer Tammy Seger.  Held on July 17 at 6:30 p.m., those in attendance will learn useful strategies to relax the mind for more peaceful sleeping.

Next, young adults are asked to register for “Digital Hunt.”  Not a traditional scavenger hunt, participants will travel around downtownClearfieldsearching for clues.  Photos will be taken at each stop.  “Digital Hunt” begins at 2:00 p.m. on July 19.

As mentioned previously, young adults and adults are invited to explore the night sky with amateur star gazer Nathan on July 19 at 8:00 p.m.

All young adults in the Own the Night program and adults in the Between the Book Covers program should call the library at 814-765-3271 soon to register for each of the programs listed above.
