CLARION – Clarion University education block students in Michele Pedlow’s ECH 418 (Teaching Science to First – Fourth Grades), presented two Elementary Science Olympiad events to local elementary students and their families. These events included a variety of fun and thought-provoking, hands-on science activities.
The first event took was May 3 at Clarion Area Elementary School. Approximately 75 first through sixth grade students and their families participated.
The second event was May 4 in the Joseph P. Grunenwald Center for Science and Technology on the Clarion University campus. Approximately 75 fifth graders from Keystone Elementary School took part in this event. In addition, the Keystone students attended a planetarium show, had lunch at Eagle Commons dining facilty and toured the campus.
Some of the activities offered at both events included pasta-mobiles, water rockets, sink or float, clay boats, mystery powders, mystery architecture, drops on a penny, barge building, bridge building and write it/do it.
The elementary students, their families and the university students thoroughly enjoyed these two exciting opportunities for some crazy science fun!
