Work on Route 153 Bridge Job near Penfield Starts Next Week

Rehab work will prolong life of bridge

CLEARFIELD – Preliminary work to rehabilitate a bridge on Route 153 near Penfield will get underway next week.

The small bridge spans Bennett Branch, just south of Penfield on Route 153 in Huston Township. The rehabilitation work will remove the bridge from PennDOT’s list of structurally deficient bridges.

Overall work on the bridge will include replacement of the superstructure (deck and parapets), drainage improvements and some approach paving. PennDOT expects to finish this project in late October.

Preliminary work will begin next week with erosion and sedimentation control measures and clearing and grubbing. Construction of a temporary roadway will take place in June. The temporary road will allow traffic to move through the work area with no disruption. As crews build the temporary road in June, motorists may encounter flaggers along Route 153 and short travel delays may occur.

All work is weather and schedule dependent. Charles J. Merlo Inc. of Mineral Point is the contractor on this $1.4 million project.
